The Common Mission
The mission of the Navarre Beach Marine Science Station and NWFL Marine Education and Discovery of Gulf Ecosystems, Inc. is to promote the appreciation, conservation, and understanding of the marine ecosystem of coastal Florida through education, service, and science. The future Gulf Coast Discovery Center is the result of the overwhelming response to and continued growth of the Navarre Beach Marine Science Station.
NWFL Marine EDGE – Vision
Design and Permitting of the Gulf Coast Discovery Center
In April 2016, the Santa Rosa County Commissioners approved submittal of the Santa Rosa County Multi-Year Implementation Plan (MYIP) to the U.S. Treasury to include permitting and design of the Gulf Coast Discovery Center.
The plan includes 15 projects representing a range of activities eligible under the RESTORE Act such as workforce development and job creation, and restoration and protection of the natural resources, ecosystems, fisheries, marine and wildlife habitats. The initial round of funding ($265,000) will be for Design, Permitting, and Estimate Development.
Construction of a 12,000 sq. ft. LEED certified, Marine Interpretive Center (Gulf Coast Discovery Center).
